Hotel question.

I notice the hotel charges an extra $20 per person/per night if there are over '2' guests in the room (which I think is silly, first time ever hearing that for a conventions). I was told that somewhere there is some rights act that a 'married' couples are seen as '1'person. For a situation like this, is the hotel allowed to charge for a 'triple' occupancy for 3 people in a room, even though two of them are married to each other?

Hey Rappy,

It seems we're getting a lot of concerns over the extra person charge :p It is something that we're looking at addressing for 2013 and beyond. We'd be far from the only hotel to deal with it, though (as I mentioned in another thread, a lot of hotels impose an "extra person charge" to compensate for the additional room service costs -- making up beds, etc.)

I'm honestly not aware of the "married couple = 1 person" thing -- will have to look into that.

2 people sharing a bed

2 people sharing a bed wouldn't really cause any extra of 'making up beds'. Yeah 4 people will use more water etc, but you think that what this hotel would be making off of the convention, it wouldn't be a big issue.

Get a double?

If there are extra charges for additional people, why not just get a double room? Would make things more comfortable too if you are trying to squeeze 3-4 people into a room with only one bed.

because they still charge the higher rate regardless of the number of beds.

For what it's worth, pretty

For what it's worth, pretty much every hotel I've been at for the last 20 years has done this, conventions included. It's standard practice. Towel cleaning, water use, and other tidbits go into this, as mentioned. Some will use less (yay shared showers) but it conpensates for those who use a lot more.

Never heard of the married couple=1 person in a long time of con attending, even as hotel liaison for a convention.
